About the Book
The book is the story of the birth of the quantum physics and its development to the present stage, narrated in a way that is significantly different from the usual presentations of the quantum theory and its applications. It reads as a story with events and characters; the events being the discoveries that saw the growth of the quantum theory of atoms, molecules and aggregates of the atoms in the form of solids to the present stage, and the characters being the scientists who made those discoveries. From the original papers and other publications, the book brilliantly reconstructs the circumstances in which those scientists worked, and the challenges that they faced. All of this is done without recourse to any mathematical equations.

About the Author
Dr S Srinivasan, educated at the Madras University and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras(IITM), has served in the Department of Physics of the IITM for over three decades during which he learnt and taught the various topics discussed in the present book. In collaboration with Professor T S Natarajan, now a Visiting Professor to I IT, Tirupati, he was involved in developing teaching aids in Physics and basic electronics using discrete devices in the 1980s.
